I am very pleased Thunderbird alumni have been inspired to join Thunderbird students and recent graduates in signing the Thunderbird Oath of Honor. As true global citizens, Thunderbird alumni have long distinguished themselves for their ethical professional conduct in their approach to conducting business.

Thunderbird has a clear sense of purpose, powerfully articulated by the School’s second president, William Schurz, when he said: “Borders frequented by trade seldom need soldiers.” Our goal is to educate global leaders who, through business and their leadership, contribute to building a more prosperous and peaceful world. Thunderbird’s mission—educating global leaders who create sustainable prosperity worldwide—is a reflection of our belief that business can and should be a force of good around the world. It’s also a vision of global management as an honorable profession that requires technical competence, professional skill and a non-negotiable commitment to ethical professional practice. The presence of the oath will help remind every member of our community that as professional global managers, we remain committed to a responsible exercise of our duties and to having a positive impact in our communities.

Thunderbird continues to play a key role in advancing corporate social responsibility and the unique role business schools must play in educating future business leaders. As the first business school in the world to develop a professional oath of honor for its graduates and through our collaboration with the World Economic Forum, United Nations Global Compact and its Principals for Responsible Management Education, and the Aspen Institute, Thunderbird has gained recognition as a global thought leader in this arena.

With the launch of this Web site, Thunderbird alumni can now join the effort by demonstrating their commitment as global citizens to adhere to these core values by signing the Thunderbird Oath of Honor. This single act by our alumni community can send a powerful message to the world at large. I encourage you to join your fellow alumni in this visible symbol of the shared values of our Thunderbird community.
